GPA Cumulative Target Grade Requirement Calculator

A target GPA is classified as mathematically reachable if the required GPA falls within the grading scale of the institution (typically between 0.0 and 4.0 for unweighted scales, or up to 5.0 for weighted scales). If the formula yields a required GPA of 4.1 on a 4.0 scale, the target is marked as "Unreachable" without retaking past courses.

When a target is unreachable, students must adjust their expectations by either increasing their remaining credit hours (taking extra courses) or lowering their target GPA. If the required GPA is extremely high (e.g., 3.8 to 4.0), the calculator flags this as "Difficult", indicating that near-perfect grades are required in every remaining class to achieve the goal.

Not all classes affect your GPA equally. A 4-credit science lecture has double the impact of a 2-credit lab course. In cumulative GPA calculations, the quality points for each course are calculated as: Quality Points = Grade Points × Credit Hours.

For example, extending the remaining credits to 60 instead of 30 substantially lowers the required average, since the improvement is spread across more coursework.
