How Cumulative GPA is Calculated
Your cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) is a weighted average of all grades earned throughout your academic career. It is calculated by multiplying the grade point value of each course (e.g., A = 4.0, B = 3.0) by its credit hours to get quality points.
The sum of all quality points is then divided by the total number of credit hours attempted. Because GPA is weighted by credits, a 4-credit course has a much larger impact on your cumulative average than a 1-credit course.
The core formula is:
$$\text{Target Cumulative GPA} = \frac{\text{Current Quality Points} + \text{Future Quality Points}}{\text{Current Credits} + \text{Future Credits}}$$
