Quick Answer — How Many Days Until a Date?
The core formula: Days = round[(Target date − Start date) ÷ 86,400,000 milliseconds], with both dates normalized to local noon so a daylight-saving clock change can never shift the count by a day.
If the target date is later than the start date, the result is a countdown — days until. If it is earlier, it is a count of days since.
Quick reference (from August 24, 2026):
- To December 25, 2026 (Christmas) → 123 days = 17 weeks, 4 days = 4 months, 1 day
- To January 1, 2027 (New Year) → 130 days = 18 weeks, 4 days = 4 months, 8 days
- From January 1, 2026 → 235 days have passed = 33 weeks, 4 days
Worked example: from August 24, 2026 to December 25, 2026 is 123 calendar days — 17 weeks and 4 days, or 4 months and 1 day on the calendar. Of those 123 days, 89 are weekdays and 34 fall on a weekend.
One detail most countdown pages skip: whether the first day counts. This calculator defaults to *not* counting the start day (a pure elapsed-time count), with a toggle to switch to inclusive counting — the difference matters for anything phrased as 'day 1, day 2, day 3...'.
