What is a Tip (Gratuity)?
A tip (also called a gratuity) is a small amount of money given to service workers on top of the regular price — a way to show appreciation for good service. You typically tip at restaurants, bars, hotels, taxis, salons, and food delivery.
The golden rule of tipping: The better the service, the higher the tip. Most people tip between 10% and 20% of the total bill.
Why do we tip? To reward good service, supplement income of service workers (who are often low-paid), show appreciation, and because it's customary in many countries.
The standard tip in most places is 15% to 20% of the total bill. Use the calculator above to get the exact amount instantly.
