Calculating Concrete Volume
Concrete is ordered and poured by volume, measured in Cubic Yards (or cubic meters in metric systems). Sizing a concrete pour requires calculating the geometric volume of the structure and converting it to the standard ordering unit.
To calculate the volume of a standard rectangular slab, multiply the length, width, and depth (thickness) in feet:
$$\text{Cubic Feet} = \text{Length (ft)} \times \text{Width (ft)} \times \frac{\text{Thickness (in)}}{12}$$
$$\text{Cubic Yards} = \frac{\text{Cubic Feet}}{27}$$
We divide by 27 because 1 cubic yard is equal to 27 cubic feet (3 ft × 3 ft × 3 ft).
