The App Store conversion funnel
App Store Optimization (ASO) success is measured across three conversion stages: Impressions → Product Page Views → Downloads. Each stage has its own rate: Impression-to-Page View Rate = (Page Views ÷ Impressions) × 100. Page-to-Download Rate = (Downloads ÷ Page Views) × 100. Total Conversion Rate = (Downloads ÷ Impressions) × 100.
For a typical app: 200,000 search impressions generate 40,000 product page views (20% impression-to-page rate) and 8,000 downloads (20% page-to-download rate). Total conversion = 8,000 / 200,000 = 4%.
Apple App Store and Google Play both expose these metrics natively in their analytics dashboards. Use this calculator to track trends and model the impact of ASO improvements.
