FAQ
Frequently asked questions
How do I scale a recipe up or down?+
Multiply each ingredient by a conversion factor equal to the desired yield divided by the original yield. Ingredients scale cleanly, but pan size, cooking time, and seasoning do not: a doubled cake batter needs a larger tin and a longer bake, not double the time. Our Recipe Scale & Multiplier Calculator converts the quantities and keeps the ratios intact.
How do I work out how much water my aquarium holds?+
Volume comes from the internal dimensions, but the usable figure is lower than the raw calculation because substrate, rocks, and the gap left below the rim all displace water. That matters because dosing and stocking guidance is based on actual water volume. Our Aquarium Volume Calculator converts dimensions to litres and gallons.
How is ABV calculated for homebrewing?+
The common approximation is ABV = (Original Gravity − Final Gravity) × 131.25, using hydrometer readings taken before and after fermentation. It is accurate enough for typical beer strengths and drifts higher for very strong brews, where a more detailed formula is preferable. Our Homebrew ABV & Priming Sugar Calculator also works out priming sugar for your target carbonation.
