Quick Answer — How Is CI/CD Minute Billing Calculated?
Three steps, and the middle one is where estimates go wrong. Billed Minutes = Runs × Jobs × ⌈ Minutes per Job ⌉, because every job is rounded up to a whole minute. Those billed minutes then drain the included allowance at an OS multiplier, and whatever exceeds it is charged at the runner's own per-minute rate: Cost = (max(0, Billed × Multiplier - Included))/Multiplier × Rate.
GitHub's 2026 published rates for standard hosted runners, with the multiplier at which each drains your included minutes:
- Linux ARM — $0.005/min, 1× multiplier
- Linux x86 — $0.006/min, 1×
- Windows — $0.010/min, 2×
- macOS — $0.062/min, 10×
Larger Linux runners run from $0.012/min at 4 vCPU up to $0.162/min at 64 vCPU, all at a 1× multiplier. Included minutes are 2,000 a month on Free, 3,000 on Pro and Team, and 50,000 on Enterprise, and they do not roll over.
The multiplier is the part people miss. A macOS minute costs about ten times a Linux minute *and* burns ten included minutes, so a team on a 3,000-minute plan gets 300 macOS minutes before the meter starts.
