Subnetting and Network Design Principles
Subnetting is the practice of dividing a single large physical network into multiple smaller, logical subnetworks (subnets). This division is a fundamental building block of IP networking, helping to reduce broadcast storm traffic, isolate security zones, and optimize routing efficiency.
Every IPv4 address consists of two parts: the network portion (used by routers to locate the subnet) and the host portion (used to locate the specific device on that subnet). The Subnet Mask determines exactly where this split occurs.
