Lego Bulk Parts Valuation and Secondary Market Economics
Buying and selling bulk Lego by weight is a major segment of the secondary Lego market. Evaluating the fair value of a bulk lot requires understanding the condition of the bricks and their scarcity tier. Bricks in mixed used condition are valued lowest, clean and sorted collections are valued higher, and sealed new sets command the highest prices.
Scarcity tiers also act as value multipliers. Common parts (basic bricks and plates) form the baseline. Semi-rare parts (specialized colors, printed bricks) increase value, while vintage collections (sets from the 1980s and 1990s) command premium prices due to collector demand. We apply multipliers (Common = 1.0x, Semi-rare = 1.5x, Vintage = 2.5x) to the base rate per pound to establish a bulk valuation.
