## What WHtR measures that BMI doesn't

Waist-to-Height Ratio (WHtR) is simply waist circumference divided by height, both measured in the same units. ## Limitations worth knowing

WHtR is not validated for use during pregnancy, isn't diagnostic on its own, and — like most simple anthropometric ratios — doesn't distinguish muscle from fat, so very muscular individuals with a large waist from core muscle rather than fat can register a higher ratio without the associated health risk. It's also a single point-in-time measurement; trend over multiple measurements, alongside other screening numbers, tells a more complete story than any one WHtR reading.
