1. Create a list of consecutive integers from 2 to \(M\). 2. Let \(p = 2\) be the first prime. 3. Mark all multiples of \(p\) in the list as composite (\(2p, 3p, 4p, \dots\)). 4. Find the first remaining unmarked number in the list greater than \(p\). Let this be the next prime, and repeat the process. 5. The unmarked numbers remaining on the list when complete are all the prime numbers up to \(M\).
