## Macronutrients: The Structural and Energetic Pillars of Diet

While total calorie intake dictates weight change, the macronutrient composition of your diet dictates the composition of that change. Macronutrients (commonly called macros) are nutrients the body requires in large quantities to provide energy, support physiological structures, and regulate cellular functions. Multiply calories by the carbohydrate ratio: \(2,200 \times 0.40 = 880\text{ calories from carbs}\).

Divide by 4 (calories per gram): \(880 / 4 = 220\text{ grams of carbs per day}\).

**Step 2: Calculate Protein Grams**

Multiply calories by the protein ratio: \(2,200 \times 0.30 = 660\text{ calories from protein}\).
